Generalized Mutual Information Analysis for BICM-8QAM with Residual Phase Noise

Generalized mutual information (GMI) has become a key metric for bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) system design and performance analysis. As residual phase noise (RPN) normally exists after imperfect estimation, the mostly used mismatched Gaussian receiver is suboptimal GMI analysis in noise. This letter thus analyzes of BICM systems using 8-ary quadrature-amplitude-modulations (QAM) presence both RPN additive white (AWGN). We will use maximum-likelihood derived our earlier work to calculate Star-8QAM, Circular-8QAM, Rect-8QAM 8PSK. The explicit symbol bit log-likelihood ratios are specifically expressed amplitude-phase form with considered. Numerical results given details show comparison loss compared pure AWGN case. It shown that Star-8QAM much more tolerant large RPN. Moreover, ratio parameters optimized maximize as variance increases. also optimize mapping non-Gray 8QAM.
